After tonight's announcement from the Government, it will be a pleasure to invite all our children back into school in less than 2 weeks time.

Over the next few days we will be reviewing our Covid risk assessments and procedures to minimise the risk of transmission of coronavirus within our school. This will include public health advice, endorsed by Public Health England (PHE).
I will keep you updated with our plans to get the children back in school, where they belong, whilst keeping everyone- pupils and staff- as safe as possible.

Thank you for your patience and understanding as we look towards the sunlight after enduring the long stretch of darkness.

Friday 8th January

Please find below a letter from Director of Public Health and Director of Children and Young People's Services of Calderdale Council regarding the current Covid situation in Calderdale and schools.

Tuesday 5th January- update.

Good afternoon, after a very busy day of planning for how we make the next 6 weeks work, I am happy to share the following information with you:

In line with guidance given, school is open for critical/key worker’s and vulnerable children for the normal school hours (8.45- 3.15/30pm). As has been emphasised before by the government and science experts, even though school is a safe place, if childcare can be found at home, that is preferable and deemed safer.

Mrs Potter and Mrs Hemingway have today contacted any other families who are entitled to return to school during this lockdown period in accordance with government guidelines.

Remote Learning:

Teachers have prepared lessons and home learning activities which will be available each day on Google Classrooms. Children attending school and those home learning should follow these daily and there is an expectation that children complete work set to the best of their ability. Each day there will be Maths, English and another subject uploaded.

To ensure all children make as much progress as possible during this period, we will carefully monitor the engagement and, at times, be calling home to offer any support which may be needed. Your child’s work submitted to Google Classroom will be a record of their learning during school closure. All work will be acknowledged by teachers and some will receive written or verbal feedback, when appropriate.

If you need to contact your class teacher this may be done via their class email:

Please note that, throughout the day, teachers will be in school teaching, planning and uploading work so they will reply to any queries when it is possible to do so.

We understand that the limit of devices may be an issue for some. Please remember that certain tasks may be done on paper and a photo of completed work uploaded when devices are available within the household. We appreciate that this is not an ideal situation and that each family is in a different situation during the pandemic which may affect the amount of remote learning you can do. But, the continuation of your child’s education is paramount to us, and will try our utmost to help when there are difficulties.

Free-school meals:

As of Monday, families whose children are NOT in school but are entitled to free-school meals may collect a food parcel with various ingredients to last throughout the week. They should come to the hall door at 11.45am on Monday to collect them. So that we can make up the correct number of parcels needed, please could you indicate if you require a food parcel each Monday by emailing admin@copley.calderdale.sch.uk by Thursday midday.

Before/After School Club will remain open for those children attending school.

We will constantly review the different situations and adjust accordingly to help our pupils, families and staff members get through this difficult period safely and positively, and endeavour to do the best for the children.

As always, do not hesitate to contact us if you have any queries or concerns. Working together, we can get through this testing time and drive towards a brighter future.

Given the very short notice and limited guidance from the government, this is how we plan to continue providing support and learning for all of our children. We understand that some of this will not be easy for some families and will endeavor to help out as we all get to grips with this recent government announcement.

Tuesday 5th January- pupils should stay at home unless both parents are critical/key workers (see list provided) Pupils who are at home should use work already on Google Classrooms to help with learning. Critical worker children will be kept within their usual classrooms and working on Google Classrooms as those who are home learning. TEACHERS WILL USE TOMORROW TO UPDATE, PREPARE AND PLAN QUALITY LESSONS AND ACTIVITIES TO GO ON GOOGLE CLASSROOMS FROM WEDNESDAY. Logins and technical help will be available tomorrow if needed.

Other children who fall under the governments criteria to attend school during lockdown will be notified during the day and may attend school from Wednesday morning.

Please can all critical/key workers who wish their child to attend from tomorrow email admin@copley.calderdale.sch.uk with your child’s name, form and parents job title and days needed.

Before/After School Club will still be open tomorrow for critical/key worker’s children.

Meals: tomorrow any child who is attending will have the option of a hot meal if they wish (it may not be what the menu normally states). Those not attending school but who are entitled to Free School meals will be contacted tomorrow in regard to future plans.

Once again, we know that this is not the ideal situation for the start of the New Year and are trying to do the best to provide for all our children and families given what instruction the government has given us tonight. We will continue to assess and monitor the needs of our pupils in line with the guidance.

I am sure there may be lots of questions about these plans and we will try to keep everyone updated and informed.

January 4th 2021

Please find below a letter from Calderdale in regards to the latest guidance from the weekend. As always, we will try to update the information as things change.

January 3rd 2021

After a day of meetings and consultations with the Local Authority, I am happy to confirm we are ready to welcome our pupils back into school tomorrow. As last term, we will do the utmost to keep our children as safe as we possibly can whilst also looking after the health of our superb team of staff.

Please can I take this opportunity to remind families to wear face coverings and maintain social distancing during dropping off and picking up times. If any of your household are quarantining, have Covid-19 or have been for testing, please ensure your household isolates until you have a negative result or have served the isolation period. Children MUST NOT attend school if any of the above apply. Please advise the school office using the normal procedures if your child is isolating.

Covid19 and Data Protection

Whilst we are facing the current lockdown the majority of our staff are working from home. Please be assured that any personal information is being processed securely and in line with the privacy notice. Whilst working from home staff are only working on documents which contain personal information where necessary and are ensuring that they handle this data with the same care that they would when in school.

If personal data needs to be shared between members of staff or with third parties then this will be done either via a secure sharing system (such as SharePoint) or via secure school email.

If you have any concerns or queries regarding data protection or the processing of personal information during lockdown you can contact our Data Protection Officer, Debbie Pettiford (info@thedpadviceservice.co.uk).

Please follow the link below to access the new 'Letters and sounds for home and school' phonics lessons, starting on the 27th April. There are three different videos aimed at different phases and year groups.

One aimed at early blending, one at Reception and one at Year 1. After each video has been aired it will be available to watch at any time throughout the Summer term.

As you know, in foundation and key stage one we teach phonics every day. So, if you can, it would be beneficial to your child if they could watch the video suitable for them and join in with the phonics lesson everyday.

Enjoy!
